St Georges Church
Located in the Thames town centre on the corner of Mackay and Mary streets, Saint Georges Anglican church is a fine example of a wooden Gothic building (based on the Gothic stone European churches).
It has been a central feature of the town ever since it was built in 1872.
In November 2021 a performance of The Messiah was given by St Georges Choir to celebrate the 150 yr anniversary since Auckland Choral Society sang in Thames to celebrate fundraising to build the Church.

The Thames Music Group has always been extremely grateful for the support of St George's Church for the continued use of their beautiful church.
We are grateful too for generous grants from Creative New Zealand, the Thames Coromandel District Council and the Waikato Community Trust which help in paying for professional performers, and with the upkeep of the piano, but most of all we are grateful to the people of Thames and our wider Coromandel community who have supported us over the years, and who we hope will continue to do so.
