The Thames Music Group Young Performers Concert 2026

The Thames Music Group plans to bring back the ‘Young Performers’ concert on 1 November 2026. We invite local music teachers to put forward the names of their students who would be able to present two performance ready pieces, at any level from beginner to advanced.
We’re aiming to present a showcase featuring a variety of piano, vocal and orchestral instrument students. We will be relying on the teacher’s recommendation that their student will be performance ready and confident to introduce themselves (if required) using the supplied microphone.

Teachers are invited to submit the details of potential student performers by 20 August, and we’ll get back to you with our selection by 1 September. This still gives the student plenty of time to polish up and prepare for the concert on Sunday 1 November 2026.

The Thames Music Group reserves the right to select some, but not all students, to create a programme with balance of instruments and abilities and keep within a reasonable concert length.

WELCOME TO THE THAMES MUSIC GROUP (TMG) WEBSITE
TMG was founded in 1977 and is a not-for profit incorporated society, run by volunteers. Two of its original goals, that remain priorities to this day, were to encourage music performances and foster music appreciation. From its inception musicians from near and far have been invited to perform a variety of music for Thames audiences. In 1983 TMG purchased its Yamaha C3D 6ft Grand Piano. An agreement was made with St. George’s Anglican Church to house the piano and the church still generously permits TMG to use their beautiful wooden Gothic church as its concert venue. Both the St. George’s venue and TMG’s piano are fundamental to TMG’s brand and TMG’s very existence.

Few communities the size of Thames have one concert series. TMG provides Thames with two March-October monthly concert series: the free Friday concert series (which began in September 1984) and the Sunday concert series. Over the years the Friday concert series has become the showcase of local and amateur talent of all ages and admittance remains free, though Koha are gratefully accepted. The Sunday afternoon concert series features professional and other quality musicians and ensembles for a modest $20 entrance fee (members pay $15 and no charge to individuals under 18 years old).
